ITINERARY
At 8:00 a.m., we will pick you up at your hotel and leave Cusco behind as we travel through mountainous terrain towards the province of Paruro. On the way we will pass through picturesque villages such as Yaurisque among others.
We will then arrive at the first stop of the tour, the archaeological complex of Puma Orqo. In this sacred place we will learn about the legend behind the origins of the Inca culture through an Andean epic documented by chroniclers such as Juan de Betanzos and Cristobal de Molina.
While exploring the Inca archaeological remains, we will visit the Tamputoqocaca caves. Its name in Quechua means โplace of the dawn or originโ, so we will discuss whether they are linked to the legend of the beginnings of this empire…
Then, we will hike 5 kilometers (3 miles) along the Yaurisque River to Maukallaqta. This place is another archaeological site composed of more than 200 masonry buildings. According to experts, this site may have housed a magnificent oracle whose walls were covered with gold.
In addition, we will see ceremonial fountains, niches and other sacred buildings that will highlight the historical and religious importance of Maukallaqta, which was destroyed by the Spanish conquistadors. We will then take a break so that you can have lunch at your leisure on the way to Cuzco, where we will arrive at 4:00 pm. Then it will be time to take you back to your hotel and say goodbye.
