ITINERARY
This tour begins early towards the South Valley of Cusco, a little-explored area full of charm. The goal is to reach the Qโeswachaka hanging bridge, declared an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. Along the way, we will pass through beautiful places such as Huacarpay Lagoon and the archaeological site of Pikillacta, among others.
The first stop will be in the town of Checacupe, where we will see three types of bridges crossing the Pitumarca River, representing the Inca, Colonial, and Republican eras. After this stop, we will continue to enjoy the stunning lagoons: Pomacanchi, Acopia, Asnaqocha, and Pampamarca.
Next, we will head towards the district of Qehue, where the Qโeswachaka hanging bridge is located. Over 500 years old, the bridge is renewed annually by local communities. Made of ichu (Andean grass), this bridge is considered a sacred symbol of the connection between communities, nature, and history.
We will then visit a local house, where they will demonstrate the technique of braiding ichu. This is an incredibly labor-intensive task that requires great effort, skill, and teamwork.
Finally, after lunch in a local house, we will return to Cusco along a scenic and colorful route.
